PARENT FAQS

What are the benefits of sorority life?

Sorority life provides a number of benefits — academic support, a social outlet, and leadership and service opportunities. The sorority experience is flexible, but you truly do get out what you put in. In Alpha Gam, your child will have the opportunity to grow individually alongside women with similar values. Taking advantage of the multitude of opportunities that membership provides creates lifelong bonds of sisterhood that can shape your child's future.

How does formal recruitment at Mercer work?

Mercer University participates in a delayed fall recruitment. The entire process occurs about two weeks after classes begin, typically starting around Labor Day weekend. All events are on weekends or after classes. There are three "rounds" of primary recruitment — Open House, Philanthropy, and Preference. Across these rounds, your child will have the opportunity to meet every chapter and find her home!

What about informal recruitment?

The office of campus life places a total membership number on each Panhellenic chapter. Sometimes, when a chapter's membership is below that number, they choose to conduct an informal recruitment process. While each chapter's process looks different, it is typically much more casual. Informal recruitment is not a guarantee, but if Alpha Gam is participating, you will be able to find that information on our social media.
